Smoke Signals By Sherman Alexie - 939 Words

In the movie Smoke Signals by Sherman Alexie; one of the main characters is Thomas Builds-the-fire. It all begins around three in the morning when his parents held the biggest house barbecue for the entire world to see. Thomas Builds-the-fire, he is the child of fire and ashes. Nevertheless, he never had the opportunity to meet his parents from then on. In addition, he lives, talks, and acts like his grandma. Thomas Builds-the-fire has a strong soul and the potential to give hands when needed. I am Thomas Builds-the-fire and just like every fire, I cannot be extinguished when there is a big wind storm. In fact, I flew straight through that wind storm and out of the window on that very same night my parents died. I’m like a little bird that’s trying to fly out of the nest for the very first time but cannot. From there on, I first saw my hero for the first time when he rushed to my rescue as I was falling down. I can hear his elephant like feet thumping the ground as he was running towards me. His hands were as soft as sofas. From there on, he is well known throughout the Indian reservation because he was a hero and the savior of my life. That was ten years ago when Arnold Joseph saved me but my hero is no longer in the reservation with the rest of us. Yet, I have all the stories about my hero and his good deeds. He is my hero and my savior. On the other hands, he did leave me with his son Victor Joseph. Victor is a good friend of mine but I was never a friend of his.
